About the Official Training (In Spanish)

The Official Schema Therapy Training aims at teaching mental health professionals how to make appropriate clinical conceptualizations of their patients and how to apply schema therapy strategies. This training will allow you to obtain the International Schema Therapy Certification endorsed by the Argentinian-American Schema Therapy Institute (TDEAA) and by the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). This means that since TDEAA is an official representative of the ISST, you will be able to obtain an international diploma that will allow you to continue your studies in other countries of the world. This is undoubtedly a significant benefit for those colleagues who are thinking of migrating to other countries and/or those who wish to receive referrals from foreign colleagues. The different modules covered in 40 hours will include all the content required and recommended by the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). Therefore, if you take your training at the Argentinian-American Schema Therapy Institute, you will learn the same content as you would learn in other official training institutes (e.g., New York/New Jersey, Amsterdam and Frankfurt).

Dr. Patricia Escudero Rotman has the honor of being a Clinical Supervisor at Dr. Jeffrey Young and Wendy Behary’s Institute. In addition to being the Director of the Argentinian-American Schema Therapy Program she is an:

About the program

What is included in the Argentinian-American Official Training?

The content of the program includes, among many others, training colleagues on how to administer the three self-report questionnaires created by Dr. Jeffrey Young. Please note that these are the clinical questionnaires that you will use with your patients. Unfortunately, we have noticed that there are questionnaires circulating in Latin America that are NOT the official questionnaires and are NOT the ones we use in clinical practice. The appropriate questionnaires are only shared with the participants of the official Schema Therapy trainings. They are copyrighted so their distribution is NOT allowed.

The training you will receive will be mostly practical and very clinically oriented. You will work in dyads in breakout rooms and will do role plays to practice schema therapy strategies. Dr. Patricia and her collaborators will enter each breakout rooms to supervise your work and answer any questions you may have. The Argentinian-American Schema Therapy Institute has collaborators who have significant clinical experience and who will help to make your learning experience more enjoyable and productive. In most of the classes you will also watch clinical videos of Dr. Patricia’s patients, as well as training videos produced by different official schema therapy institutes (e.g., the New York/New Jersey and the Dutch institutes, respectively).

These events were free of charge for the participants of the trainings. You can watch some fragments of these webinars on our institute’s YouTube channel. Participants in our 2023 and 2024 training will not be required to pay any fees to attend the upcoming 2023 and 2024 international events organized by our institute.

The official international program is 40 hours long. This training meets the requirements of the official training of the International Society for Schema Therapy (ISST) and covers all modules of the program. The content and the number of hours of the training is the same one as the one led by Dr. Jeffrey Young, Wendy Behary and Remco van der Wijngaart, among others. At the end of the training you will receive a diploma endorsed by the Argentinian-American Schema Therapy Institute and by the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). As mentioned before, during the training you will not only learn from Power Point presentations but also have the chance to watch many clinical videos of sessions conducted by Dr. Patricia Escudero Rotman (Training Director) and other Schema Therapy experts. You will also do role plays in dyads (in breakout rooms) in which you will practice clinical strategies learned in that class.

This active and interactive training modality is the best way to learn and apply the clinical strategies of the model. Although there will be a theoretical presentation and explanation of the concepts and clinical strategies, the practical part of the model will be emphasized. In other words, this training will not be another “encyclopedic learning experience” but rather you will “learn by applying” the different therapeutic strategies. You will also have the possibility to ask questions to the Dr. Patricia Escudero Rotman who has 36 years of clinical experience and has been trained in different psychotherapeutic models in the United States and Europe.

The mission of the Argentinian-American Schema Therapy Institute is to spread Schema Therapy through the Southern Hemisphere. We encourage Spanish-speaking trainees to join the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) and benefit from the Society’s activities, collegial exchanges, and end-of-Congress parties.

As a multi-national society, ISST is sensitive to the linguistic challenges presented to non-English speakers. Until most books about Schema Therapy are published in Spanish, the Argentinian-American Schema Therapy Institute recommends that Spanish-speaking colleagues watch webinars and read Schema Therapy papers and books written in English. Patricia will translate the English-based Schema Therapy terms into Spanish during classes.
