The goal of this workshop is to help psychotherapists to identify and heal early maladaptive schemas and dysfunctional modes that prevent them from applying schema therapy strategies in a competent way. For example, some therapists may have a subjugation schema that prevents them from doing empathic confrontation with their patients. This clinical strategy is crucial to help our patients.
Therefore, it may be relatively easy for these therapists to offer their patients emotional validation, but it may be very difficult for them to confront the patient’s dysfunctional coping modes (e.g., an Overcompensation Mode). This difficulty may be related to the therapist’s fear of being attacked, devalued and/or abandoned by the patient. During this workshop, biographical links to these schemas and coping modes are explored so that therapists can heal their schemas, diminish their dysfunctional coping modes and activate their Healthy Adult Modes when working with difficult patients (e.g., narcissist and borderline patients).
The groups are made up of very warm colleagues who are eager to grow as therapists and as human beings. All participants agree to maintain the confidentiality of what is shared during these workshops.
We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming workshops! It will be a very valuable experience for us all.
Warmly,
Dr. Patricia and Team
